Here are three new keg labels from Fegley’s Brew Works…no real details other than they are all likely strong lagers…but up today we have Quadruplebock, Elongator & Alleviator.

Fegley’s Brew Works & Men’s Health Magazine Team Up to Fight Prostate Cancer

imageLooks like the Fegley family will be making a donation of approximately $3,000 to fight Prostate Cancer. They’re working on a new Belgian Tripel that will be release Dec 11th at 5PM!  Don’t miss the opening toast 12/11-5PM.

From Mike:

Fegley’s Brew Works  teamed up with Men’s Health Magazine to raise awareness, and help “start the conversation”about Prostate Cancer. As part of Brewvember, we brewed a Belgian Tripel that will be released December 11th at 5pm.

Rude Elf’s Reserve Litigation Resolved

Rude-elf-case-photo1-150x150Remember THIS?  Breaking news  from Mike:

Fegley's Brew Works is pleased to report the litigation with fellow Pennsylvania Brewer, Troegs Brewing, has been resolved and Fegley's Brew Works will continue to sell Rude Elf's Reserve. When asked to comment on this matter Jeff Fegley responded, "We have no further comment. You may direct any questions to me via email only at jeff@thebrewworks.com."  When asked if Troegs would be attending the Allentown Brew Works Beer Festival this Saturday, December 3rd, Fegley responded, "Unfortunately no, they are tied up with their new brewery expansion."

Fegley’s Brew Works - Funky Monkey & Harvest Fest

imageHere’s a new keg-only label approval from Fegley’s Brew Works called Funky Monkey.  We’ve seen this before, and I originally thought we were talking about a wild-yeast Space Monkey, but it looks like Funky Monkey is a Farmhouse style ale aged for 4-months…this from Brew Works (Sept 6th) Funky Monkey (7%ABW) is a light, refreshing farmhouse ale that has been aged for 4 months. It's warm golden color gives way to a slight earthy tartness with hints of pineapple and crisp apples and finishes like a fine dry champagne.image

As a bonus I’ve also included their new keg-only Harvest Fest IPA label (also approved today—and I think part of the Bethlehem Harvest Festival celebration).

Fegley’s Brew Works Bourbon Barrel Devious Pumpkin Ale

imageLooks like Beau’s got Bourbon Barrels!  It’s interesting timing for sure, but here we have Fegley’s Brew Works Bourbon Barrel Devious Pumpkin Ale.  We recently saw bourbon barrel aged Insidious and it was followed by a bottle release.  The Insidious bottles use the normal label with a gold “bourbon barrel” sticker.  Since we are beyond most of pumpkin-season, I’d say we’ll have to wait for next year for bottles, but you never know.

Fegley’s Brew Works Bourbon Barrel Insidious Imperial Stout

image

Here’s a new one from our pal Beau Baden @ Fegley’s Brew Works.  Looks like Beau put their Insidious Imperial Stout into Bourbon Barrels to crank out this 9% ABV new brew…and yes it will be packaged in 12oz bottles so watch out NEPA!

Fegley’s Brew Works–Always Sunny Pale Ale

image

Here’s another great 12oz bottle label from Fegley’s Brew Works called Always Sunny Pale Ale. “The fathers of our nation were very fond of a good tankard of ale.  Dozens of Philadelphia breweries lubricated the Age of Reason, moving men toward an egalitarian philosophy, a rational government, & enlightened experiments in science.  But things weren’t perfect by any means—the Liberty Bell had to wait out the British occupation of Philadelphia by hiding in Allentown, & poor Mr. Franklin had to routinely wait out beautiful weather to ‘wet the kite twine so that it can conduct the electric fire freely.’  Alas, let’s raise a pint, & hope it is Always Sunny…wherever you are.”  The label features old Ben & the Philly sky line…and of course the QR-code.

From Mike:
Bethlehem Brew Works:

"M" (9%) is Batch 1,000 here at BBW! This brew is an Imperial Honey Brown Ale brewed with a generous amount of British malts and lightly accented with East Kent Golding hops. We decided to make this pivotal batch a little more special by blending it with 2 year old Bier de Pharaoh lending to a slight honey nose, and a mildly sweet finish.

Just in time for Memorial Day weekend and the official start of the Summer season-
on Friday, May 27th, we will release our Hefeweizen at the Allentown Brew Works and at the Bethlehem Brew Works.
Brewmaster Beau Baden shows his expertise with this one, as he is known for this German style wheat beer!
His first employment was as a brewer at Pyramid Breweries where he won the GABF Gold medal for Hefeweizen in 2001. Pyramid still proudly remarks that the beer is “the standard by which all other wheat beers are judged.”
The Hefeweizen comes in at 5.2%abv, and pairs excellently with the PA Dutch section of our menu, and with salads, poultry, or light fish dishes.

**************

Beers of Spring!–BrewMaster's Beer Dinner

image

From Mike:
Location: Allentown Brew Works, High Gravity
  05/20/2011 6:30pm

Celebrate American Craft Beer Week with a Brewmaster’s Dinner highlighting the joys of Spring!
We’ll start with a bit of social time, where we will mix & mingle while enjoying Maibock from Lewis Thomas (Head Brewer, Bethlehem Brew Works) and the flagship selections of the Allentown Brew Works.
We’ll be passing hors d’oeuvres from Chef Jill Oman’s kitchen as well.
Then we’ll sit down for a great evening, stick out our pinkies, and be all fancy…

Salad
Space Monkey
Duck Confit on Baby Arugula with dried Cranberries, Goat Cheese and Candied Pecans.
Space Monkey is formulated to rocket around your palate with a 21st century complexity in flavor and aroma: hints of lemon and pepper orbit around a raspberry tartness to guarantee a successful takeoff for the evening!

Entree
Monkey Wrench
Grilled Arctic Char Napoleon with Asian Julienned Vegetables, fried Wontons and a warm Quinoa Pea Salad.
Monkey Wrench is an outstanding example of a classic Saison Ale-with refreshing hints of lemon and pepper.

Dessert
Blueberry Belch
A scrumptious Blueberry Cobbler paired with our late Spring release of Blueberry Belch!
With a definite aroma of blueberries, this slightly cloudy (unfiltered real fruit) ale has notes of blueberries that stand out on the initial taste with a pleasing acidity.
The fruit flavor follows throughout combined with a satisfying breadiness, and its moderate carbonation brings back the great flavor again…and again…

AFTER Dinner
Brewmaster Beau Baden is pulling something out of the beer cellar
This is a surprise, and you know this will be GREAT!

New Brews @ Brew Works

From Mike:
New at the Allentown Brew Works:

Duffer's Pale Ale is an American Style West Coast Pale Ale with a solid hop bitterness.  It has a distinctive piney and grapefruit flavor, and just a touch of malt presence to balance the flavors out.  At 5.2% ABV, it's an easy drinking beer that can't be missed.
In the Fermenters there's plenty of Blueberry Belch coming our way, plus Amber Lager to keep up with the demand at the Iron Pigs Stadium!

 At the Bethlehem Brew Works:

Our Belgian Blonde is a clear, crisp and clean finishing beer with hints of pine from the Czech Saaz hops and citrusy notes found in the Belgian yeast strain.  This crowd pleasing thirst quencher comes in at 4.7%ABV, so go ahead and have a few!
And coming for Cinco de Mayo this Thursday...maybe we can call it "Fünfter der Mai"because we're releasing this German style:  Maibock, (Mai meaning "May" and Bock meaning "goat" in German), is a 7.3% Spring style Bock with a toasty aroma, slightly sweet malt flavor and a crisp refreshing bitterness.  We have aged this brew at cold temperatures for several weeks to create a smooth, full bodied, traditional German lager.

Fegley’s Brew Works– Chatfield Manor IPA NEARFest 2011 & Devious

post1 post2

Here’s your first look at the label for the Brew Works Chatfield Manor IPA.  This 12oz 6.5% west coast IPA will be brewed in support of the North East Art Rock festival (NEARFest) 2011.  According to the Brew Works website, “Chatfield Manor

is the title of a Mike Keneally song from the album, Sluggo! (1998). The song refers to the house of Mike’s manager and good friend Scott Chatfield, where Mike often writes and records his music.

Mike and Scott were so thrilled by having the title used for this year’s beer, that they decided to register chatfieldmanor.com with the intention to provide a free download of “Chatfield Manor” when the beer is first tapped at the Bethlehem Brew Works on NEARfest Weekend 2011.”  This beer will be available only at the Bethlehem Brew Works location.

Also today we see the new 12oz packaging for Devious Imperial Pumpkin Ale.  This was previously only available in 750ml bottles, so like many other Brew Works beers, they are now selling 12oz bottles.

23 March 2011

Fegley’s Brew Works Blueberry Belch–Now in 12oz Bottles

FegleysBlueberryBelchHere's your first look at the new 12oz bottle packaging for Fegley's Brew Works Blueberry Belch. This has been a popular seasonal tap-only brew at the Brew Works so I'm excited to see it out in bottles for the rest of NEPA to enjoy. Fegley's uses 150 lbs of unfiltered blueberry puree in each 15bbl batch and the brew comes in at 4.2% ABV.

Fegley’s Brew Works–It’s Not My Alt!

BrewWorksLogoFrom Mike:

Now available in Bethlehem:
Our Altbier is a German style brown ale originating in Dusseldorf, and literally translate to "old beer". The creamy head of this copper hued beer leads to an aromatic hop presence, a subtle caramel flavor, and an ideal balance of hops and malt.  It's medium body produces a clean, crisp, and dry finish...the perfect session beer for this time of year. "It's Not My Alt!"

On tap Today (Tuesday) in Bethlehem:
The invigorating smell of grapefruit...The fresh hop bitterness...The sweet malt finish...Brewed in the tradition of West Coast IPAs, we entangled tons of malt & tons of hops into the kettle to create this sensationally explosive ale. Could this be the hoppiest Brew Works beer yet? Hop Explosion goes on tap at BBW.

Coming Friday on tap in Allentown Only
and in Bottles available at all 3 locations:
Our Monkey Wrench Saison is back!  This dry, crisp, golden-colored ale is brewed to impart the secrets of the higher intelligence through its monolithic flavor. It is an outstanding example of a classic Saison Ale with refreshing hints of lemon and pepper and a snappy carbonated bite.

Insidious & NEW Dark Matter Seasonal

From Mike:

Available on draft at all 3 Fegley's Brew Works locations:

Insidious Imperial Stout

ABV 9.0%  •  IBU 40  •  O.G. 1.088
Rich and seductively smooth with complex chocolate and roasted flavors and hints of dark fruit. We conjure this by squeezing the life from two-row pale malts, chocolate and caramel malts and roasted barley. Then we boil their spirits with East Kent Golding hops, and unleash an English ale yeast to feast upon and transform the remains. What emerges is a black deity-sized libation that will be your portal to the dark side.
Bottled conditioned for natural carbonation, you may cellar Insidious for several years for additional smoothness…though be warned, it’s temptation will perpetually haunt you.

Insidious Returns to Brew Works!

From Mike:

Now on tap at Allentown Brew Works & Bethlehem Brew Works

Rich and seductively smooth with complex chocolate and roasted flavors and hints of dark fruit. We conjure this by squeezing the life from two-row pale malts, chocolate and caramel malts and roasted barley. Then we boil their spirits with East Kent Golding hops, and unleash an English ale yeast to feast upon and transform the remains. What emerges is a black deity-sized libation that will be your portal to the dark side.

Beer Updates & New Beer from Brew Works

FegleysSpaceMonkeyFrom Mike:

Space Monkey
Style:  Raspberry Saison Ale  -  ABV:  7%  -  IBUs:  25  -  OG: 1.070  -  Size: 7.93 gal, 750 ml, 12 fl oz

Space Monkey is formulated to rocket around your palate with a 21st century complexity in flavor and aroma: hints of lemon and pepper orbit around a raspberry tartness to guarantee a successful flight.
Our mission begins with Belgian Pilsner & wheat malts and a live Saison yeast strain fueled by 300 lbs of raspberries.
And the good news is that Space Monkey will be returning in March, 2011 with the new 12 oz bottles.
This great beer goes well with the following food pairings; Salads and Apéritifs; Poultry, Seafood & Shellfish entrees; Earthy cheeses (Camembert, Fontina); Nutty cheeses (Asiago, Colby, Parmesan)

IN BETHLEHEM:

“Dueling IPAs“.   Yes!  Fegley’s Brew Works has an internal IPA war going on - A Fegley’s interpretation of an East Coast vs West Coast IPA battle.  Here are the combatants…
Hop’Solutely
Style:  West Coast Style Triple IPA  -  ABV:  11.5%  -  IBUs:  100+  -  OG: 1.100  -  Size: 7.93 gal, 750 ml, 12 fl oz

A heavenly, heavily hopped Triple IPA packed with Pacific Northwest hops. This brew has a “Hop’Solutely” intoxicating citrus aroma followed by a smooth malt backbone.  Brewed with two-row pale & caramel malts.  Ludicrously hopped with Cascade, CTZ, Amarillo, and Chinook hops, then dry hopped with loads more Amarillo and Chinook hops.
On the Hop’Solutely site we also learn that it is bottle conditioned for natural carbonation, corked & caged and it will “age gracefully over several years”.
It is NOW AVAILABLE in 12 oz bottles, which can be purchased in 4-packs.
Hop’Solutely is suggested with the following food pairings;  Sharp cheddar & pungent cheeses, oysters, grilled meats & perfect with a burger with bleu cheese & bacon.
Then we have…
Stop, Hop & Roll
Style:  East Coast Style Double IPA  -  ABV:  9%  -  IBUs:  80  -  OG: 1.086  -  Size: IN HOUSE DRAFT

Stop Hop and Roll is an aggressively hopped East Coast style IPA with a balanced malt flavor and assertive hop bitterness. Brewed with a large dose of citrus-y Cascade hops. This is truly a hophead’s fireside friend.
At this time, the only way you are going to get to try this brew out and cast your vote in this battle is to head out to the Bethlehem Brew Works location and grab a pint.
Which is your favorite?

“…well, that’s tough. They both are over the top mouth pleasing zingers. The Stop Hop & Roll has a broader bitterness that I must say that I found more appealing. But honestly there is so much that happens which each. You start out in a very similar place at the beginning, but each takes you into in different direction. The tough thing about dueling these two though, are the IBUs. They’re both so high that it’s like doing a taste test on 2 plates of hot wings that are “Crazy Hot” and “Insanely hot”! --Mike Fegley

Fegley’s BrewWorks–Blue Mountain White

imageHere’s an exciting new label approval for our friends at Fegley’s Brew Works.  I’m still gathering some details, but this is their keg label (7.93) gallons) packaging for their new Blue Mountain While Malt Beverage Brewed with Spices.  Based on what I’m hearing, this dosn’t seem to be in the tanks so far so stay tuned.
