Fegley’s Brew Works Wins National Sustainability Award

Here’s some exciting news from Mike @ Fegley’s Brew Works:

(Allentown, PA - 20 Sep 2012/mbb/) - Waste and Recycling News announced last week that Fegley’s Brew Works was awarded its coveted Green Corporate Citizens Award. Fegley’s Brew Works, winning in the under 100 million dollar category, beat out 70 other companies that were nominated to win the award. The announcement was made recently at the annual Corporate Recycling and Waste Conference in Kissimmee, Florida.

Fegley’s Brew Works won the award because of their ongoing green initiatives that they have implemented at their multiple locations. The company has an ongoing partnership with the Rodale Institute to convert over a half million pounds of material into compost that previously would have ended up in landfills each year. They also upcycle another 350,000lbs. of spent grains by utilizing it as feed for locally farmed cattle that the company uses for its beef supply.

In addition to reducing their waste to low levels, Fegley's Brew Works has also reduced its energy footprint. The restaurants have all implemented LED lighting, with the Allentown location being home to one of the largest LED lighting implementations (over 450 fixtures) in the industry worldwide. The Hamilton Street location has also outfitted its roof with 44-kilowatt solar array, further reducing its energy consumption, and the company recently began purchasing the remainder of their electricity from wind power purchased from Renewable Choice Energy.

Mike Fegley, Marketing Director for Fegley's Brew Works, said "It's wonderful to be recognized for the steps we've taken. Our family is grateful for the world's gifts, and we're committed to the preservation and welfare of our planet. But what most people don't realize is that we are also saving money by taking the extra steps. Our hauling fees are down, and our energy costs are down. It's a win-win."

The charity golf tournament is in honor of David W. Fegley of Allentown, who was first diagnosed Hodgkin’s lymphoma when he was 19 years old and then battled it again when he was 21. He bravely fought and overcame the cancer. Unfortunately, he passed away when he was just 33 years old from heart failure because of the damage that was caused to his heart from the radiation and chemotherapy.

This tournament will be a Double Shotgun, with registration for the first Shotgun from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., and registration for the second Shotgun from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The Shotguns will begin approximately at 7:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Breakfast for the first Shotgun will be provided as well as a packed lunch for the second Shotgun. A BBQ under the tent, with Bert’s Smokin’ BBQ and Brew Works Brews, will be ready for all participants at the completion of each Shotgun.

Prizes and awards for both rounds, including cash prizes for the winners who come in 1st, 7 th, and 15th place, will be presented at the Brew Works on the Green. Plus players will receive a goody bag with Fegley’s logo cups, coupons, coasters and more.

The cost of registration is $89 per player or $356 for a foursome. For more information, please call (610) 433-7777 or visit

The Fegley family has been strong supporters of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In the spring of 2010, Jeff Fegley of Lower Saucon Township earned the title of the Eastern Pennsylvania chapter’s Man of the Year after competing in a 10 week fundraising campaign.

Fegley’s Brew Works – Pawnshop Porter

Here’s an exciting new 12oz bottle coming from our pal Beau Baden @ Fegley’s Brew Works called Pawnshop Porter.  This is a beer that Brew Works has had as a draft-only for years so it’s exciting to see this “diamond in the rough” coming to bottles for larger distribution….and of course I really like the artwork on this one.  As with all brew Works labels this does include a QR scan code for further details on the beer itself.

Fegley’s Brew Works Expands Adding an Additional 1200 Bbl/Year

imageI just heard from Mike @ Fegley’s and I’m excited to report that 3 new fermenting tanks will be delivered to the 812 W Hamilton St Allentown location tomorrow (2/15).  This will add an additional 1200 bbl/year to their capacity and allow them to do some exciting new things…

Here are the full details:

3 HUGE Fermenting Tanks delivered TOMORROW February 15th

Media Advisory - Tanks will be on the move into the building.  PHOTO/VIDEO OP

Brewmaster Beau Baden and Fegley family will answer questions about the new tanks, further brewery expansion plans...

Tastings of recent offerings, and a sneak peek at what's coming through 2012.

Allentown, PA-- Fegley's Brew Works will be rolling in 3 NEW huge fermenting tanks to the Allentown Brew Works location tomorrow. The new tanks will allow the brewery to produce an additional amount of beer equal to the brewing operation at the original Bethlehem Brew Works location. Trucks are scheduled to arrive at 7AM, and riggers will be wrangling the tanks into the brewery from the rear entrance for a good portion of the day Wednesday.  The 3 new tanks will join two existing 30BBL tanks that were recently installed in May of 2011.

"We've been brewing at capacity for a long time. In 2010, we hit our peak at 66% above our 2009 numbers. That's when we knew we needed a way to make more beer. Those two 2011 tanks added 50% more capacity, but it didn't give us any breathing room - we peaked out the moment they went on line - we just worked harder," said a smiling Brewmaster Beau Baden, "And when these tanks go live, we'll probably bring on some more help because, well, we'll need it."

According to 2011 production numbers from the Brewers Association, Fegley's Brew Works ranked in the top 40 brewpubs in the nation, and the additional three tanks coming Wednesday will bring their brewing production to 5,000 BBLS annually. This will rank the family-owned Lehigh Valley brewery as one of the TOP 5 BREWPUBS in the Northeast United States.

From Mike:
Brew Works on the Green  3400 Tilghman Street, Allentown
Our Belgian Blond (6% ABV) has an earthy nose that lends way to subtle yeast characteristics highlighted by a lemon-citrus sweetness, slight hop spiciness, and a dry, crisp finish.

Bethlehem Brew Works 569 Main St Bethlehem
In Bethlehem, the Brew Works has decided to take our famous Steelgaarden Wit to new heights!  This Imperial Wit (8.1%ABV) has all the great citrusy, spice flavors and unfiltered characteristics you love but with a kick!  It will warm you up and make you forget about the cold for awhile.

Allentown Brew Works 812 W Hamilton St Allentown
And on Hamilton Street in Allentown, we released an Abbey-style ale that has roots in the beers of the Belgian Trappist Monks of Westmalle. A Belgian Dubbel (7.8%ABV) with mahogany color, medium body, and spicy floral nose are accented with flavors of raisin, molasses and caramel creating a smooth, rich beer that gains complexity as it rests.
